Patients often leave the hospital with little to no knowledge of their own diagnosis and how their treatment will go. Educating patients about their own illnesses helps them be more in control of their treatment and its possible outcome. Doctors being more attentive to the patient’s individual circumstances is key to harm reduction and better treatment outcomes which benefit both the doctor and the patient.

“A doctor’s ability to explain, listen and empathize has a profound impact on a patient’s care. Yet, as one survey found, two out of every three patients are discharged from the hospital without even knowing their diagnosis.”
